Volunteering is Cool

The MOST Frequently Asked Question

Question:  Can I volunteer and run the event the same day?

Answer:  For safety and course continuity, we need the volunteers race day, to remain as volunteers. You CAN volunteer for Pre Race Course Development and then run the race that weekend (limited slots).

– Team GBC

I’ve never done a GBC, but lemme tell you a little about my volunteer experience at this event because lots of you do the race but only a few have probably volunteered. Today I got to see my son (10 years old) truly enjoy his volunteer experience and help people find their way around the course. I got to see a few of my OCR heroes…. Andi Hardy, Peter Blind Pete Cossaboon, Joey McGlamory, Yuri Force (and his whole gorgeous family!!), Heathyr Marie, OEW, More Heart than Scars and others….This is my 2nd GBC volunteer experience. I’ll be back every single time, Lord willing. It’s something each one of you should try at least once so you can see YOU through OUR eyes. To Mark and Matt and the GBC crew – you know I love ya and I truly appreciate the opportunity you provide for a great volunteer experience, a great community of people, and a race like nothing else out there. See you again soon!

Obstacle/Endurance Challenge Saftey Coordinators, Georgia Volunteers

Thank you for the opportunity to volunteer at the Perry, Ga venue this past Saturday. I tend to volunteer at most events, and noticed a few key differences I would like to share with you.

1. I was checked on about every 15 minutes or so. Even if it was a drive by and a thumbs up, staff was present and available for any situation if needed. As a volunteer, this means the world. To give you an idea… at some venues, it takes several hours before we see a staff member.
2. The staff was friendly and communicated well with each other, although this does not directly affect a volunteer it was just nice to not feel uncomfortable since there was NO bickering / whining / bullshit / drama.
3. The shift wasn’t too long or too short, and realistic on expectations.

Overall had a great experience and look forward to running with your group at a future event. Thank You!
